The Falls
Sun-soaked reader,
If you are not in the southern Ontario area, you may not know that Saturday was a stormy day. Thunder, lightning, rain, everything you need for a turbulent romance between star-crossed lovers. But not necessarily the perfect weather for a book fair in a city on a waterfall. But we are delighted to have been a part of the first-ever Book Affair in Niagara Falls this Saturday, even with the stormy weather.
We met some really incredible people, even with the weather-induced low turnout. We happily spent a large portion of the day chatting with Karen Dales, vampire novelist and book fair neighbour.
And she kindly let us know about the Slave Lake Book Auction, a great project started by Colleen Mckie, to benefit the Slave Lake Library, which lost not only its books but also its building. And dear reader, we cannot allow a community to go without a library, especially a community that has suffered this much tragedy. So if you have some spare book dollars kicking around, perhaps you might consider getting some limited edition book swag and supporting a very worthy cause at the same time? Slave Lake readers will love you for it.
But these were not the only things that happened in Niagara Falls this weekend. A fierce game of Little Cat Rides Big Cat was played to a draw. Jocelyne and Todd were forced to concede that they were equals in the task of balancing tiny cats on larger cats.
And before we forget, a few photos of books on our table. Do you have these ones yet? Pitouie?
If you haven’t had the chance to meet us and pick up these fine volumes yet, you might want to keep your eye on the Slave Lake Book Auction. We have a special prize pack up for auction later this week, so you can enjoy the finest in non-traumatizing Canadian fiction and support a library in need. Entertainment and smug self-satisfaction. It does not get better than that.
