Free book???

2010/03/01

Anxious reader,

Finally, the day we have all been eagerly anticipating is here. Canada Also Reads! It is like Christmas for books. The first of the essays is already online, waiting for your eyes to eagerly absorb each word, with another essay to appear later today. And then two more each day this week, until Friday when you, dear reader, will have the chance to vote for your favourite! Will your favourite be You and the Pirates (to be defended by author hero Lisa Pasold)? You know that we sincerely hope it will be, but we will understand if you are swayed by the powerful words of the panelists. Some excellent new reading material for all of us, no matter who emerges victorious.

But because we are who we are (publisher of one of the shortlisted novels), we must do all we can to sway you to Jocelyne’s side. Thus, we present to you the bits and bytes version of our debut publication. Finally, you can enjoy the wacky escapades of Salaryman and New Wave on your favourite e-book device. As long as your favourite device uses the e-pub format or is happy with a PDF. We are not very technologically gifted; creating even these two formats pushed us to our very limits.

So take advantage of this week-long offer to catch up on your Canada Also Reads reading. Until March 8th, the day of the live chat between authors, panelists and Afterword bloggers, we will be offering the e-Pirates for free! Free! Let the word roll around in your mouth and then, when you’re ready, download your preferred format:

e-pub or PDF

(Kindle owners, there is an e-Pirates in the Kindle store, but we are not able to give it to you for free from there. Blame Amazon and their pricing laws. We have no control. To get around this, however, we recommend you convert the e-pub file to a mobi file using freeware such as calibre. We are not sure if you can upload books to the Kindle [no Kindle for us!] from your computer, though, so you should probably not listen to us.)

Tell us what you think of the other shortlisted books. We are working hard to read them all before the voting begins on Friday and we’d love to hear how you are doing with reading all eight books in the short time since the shortlist was announced.

Thanks for pointing me to your lovely site. I added a link to your free ebook to my post on Canada Also Reads, so I hope that will drive some traffic your way. The more people that get excited about reading (and reading CanLit especially), the better!

Thanks! We really appreciate the add. And we’re with you in wanting to get as many people as possible reading new and exciting stuff. That’s kind of why we’re doing this publishing thing!
